Who is Dt. Erman Terzi?
Dt. Erman Terzi is a dentist at İkon Dental in Istanbul who treats children and adults. Dt. Terzi studied dentistry at Beykent University and is a member of the Turkish Dental Association.
The daily work covers preventive dentistry, fillings and root canal treatment. A particular interest is vital pulp therapy: treatments that aim to keep a young permanent tooth alive while its root is still growing, rather than removing the nerve.
Treatment is not only technique. With children, the trust built in the chair matters as much as the treatment itself, so behaviour guidance and clear, calm communication are a large part of how Dt. Terzi works.

Children
For children the work starts with prevention: fluoride, sealing the deep grooves of back teeth, and teaching good brushing. When a baby tooth is decayed it can often be filled, root-treated or covered with a small steel crown, and if one is lost early a space maintainer keeps room for the adult tooth. Dt. Terzi has shared with colleagues an approach that uses ideas from the performing arts to lower children's anxiety, and uses it in the clinic.
Adults
For adults the work covers general dentistry: tooth-coloured fillings and bonding, root canal treatment, gum treatment, extractions including wisdom teeth, crowns, bridges and dentures, whitening, and night guards for teeth grinding. Some of these can be part of a smile makeover.

Questions patients ask
My child is afraid of the dentist. What happens at the first visit?
The first visit is about getting to know the room and the dentist. Dt. Terzi uses behaviour guidance: explaining each step in a way a child understands and going at the child's pace before any treatment starts.
Does a baby tooth need treatment if it will fall out anyway?
Often yes. Baby teeth hold space for the adult teeth and a decayed one can hurt or become infected. Whether a tooth needs a filling, root canal treatment or nothing at all is decided at the examination.
Does Dt. Terzi also treat adults?
Yes. Dt. Terzi treats children and adults, from check-ups and fillings to root canal treatment, crowns and dentures.
