EARLY JAW DISORDER TREATMENTS
We use the most modern treatment methods and technological tools to detect and treat every problem in your mouth and teeth.
RELEASE GUIDANCE: Following the fall of the primary teeth, the permanent teeth underneath erupt into the mouth. However, in some cases, the eruption of permanent teeth may be delayed or permanent teeth may erupt next to milk teeth. In this case, the milk teeth should be extracted in the order of eruption of the permanent teeth. In this way, the permanent teeth are both aligned properly and there are no permanent teeth that cannot come out and remain in the palate.
The aim of the eruption guidance is to erupt the permanent teeth in their correct places as much as possible. However, crowding may occur in the teeth and orthodontic treatment may be required. However, orthodontic treatment after this treatment method will be much easier.
Another riding guidance is called “burst shooting”. In this method, it is aimed to remove the permanent teeth as well as the milk teeth, so that the teeth in the jaw can last very comfortably. However, this treatment method is not preferred today. Because of the premature extraction of permanent teeth, the upper and lower jaws narrow and the facial profile worsens. Instead, today, after all the teeth have erupted, even if they are crooked, it is to extract the teeth in a controlled manner during braces treatment without narrowing the jaw arches, if necessary.
Implants are one of the best treatment methods in today’s dentistry, as they completely replace the existing teeth. Because when it is placed inside the existing jawbone, it completely combines with the bone and becomes a very durable structure. It creates a complete tooth structure with teeth in porcelain or zirconium structure placed on this durable structure. It offers a better solution in terms of function and aesthetics compared to the existing tooth, which is yellowed and worn, and the root surface is inflamed.
JAW ENLARGEMENT TREATMENTS
It is one of the most ideal of early treatments. Because, thanks to the widening of the jaw, both the teeth can last very comfortably and the face is provided with a more aesthetically beautiful appearance.
Jaw enlargement treatments are mostly performed on the upper jaw. The reason for this is that the upper jaw bone consists of two parts and completely fuses at the age of 14-15 and becomes one piece. The lower jawbone, on the other hand, consists of a single bone structure and is a much more difficult structure to expand.
The maxillary enlargement can be performed in 2 different periods as mixed dentition (8-9 years) and permanent dentition (11-15 years). The logic is the same in both methods, and the upper jawbone is enlarged with the help of a screw placed in the middle of the appliance on the upper palate.
SLOW EXPANSION TREATMENTS (SLOW EXPANSION)
In the mixed dentition period (8-9 years), maxillary enlargement is usually performed with removable, removable appliances. If patient cooperation is impaired, this appliance can be replaced with a fixed appliance. In this treatment method, the use of removable appliances is very simple and the middle screw is required to be opened once or twice a week. If worn regularly, maxillary enlargement is provided permanently.
Mandible enlargement treatments are effective if performed before the eruption of the lower canine teeth. However, this enlargement only allows the expansion of the alveolar bone where the teeth are lined and does not affect the entire mandible bone. Thanks to this treatment, the bone in which the lower jaw teeth are lined up expands, resulting in a wider “U-shaped” arch. This minimizes the amount of tooth crowding that may occur in the future.
HOW TO DO?
A digital or traditional measurement is taken from the relevant area. The laboratory works on the measurement taken and makes a personalized appliance. It is then delivered to the patient and attached to the patient’s side. It is a painless, needle-free and very simple procedure. In children who have nausea and do not want to take an impression with the impression dough, an appliance can be made by taking a digital impression with the scanning method.
HOW TO USE?
It is only removed while eating, the remaining slices remain in the mouth. It should also be worn in the mouth while sleeping at night.
Screw turning should be done according to the recipe and frequency of use shown by the physician. Sometimes 2 times a week, sometimes once a week, sometimes it can be used passively without turning it for reinforcement.
The appliance should be kept in the box given by the clinic. If they are wrapped in a napkin and set aside, they are so light and thin that they risk getting lost or broken.
Food should never be eaten with the appliance, otherwise the appliance will be damaged and lose its effectiveness.
If it is suspected that it is sitting, you should definitely go to the doctor, otherwise the appliance may completely lose its compatibility and become unusable.
CARE
After each tooth brushing without using toothpaste, the appliances should be thoroughly cleaned with a brush and water.
RAPID EXPANSION THERAPY (RAPID EXPANSION) (HYRAX)
In the rapid expansion method performed in the permanent dentition period (11-15 years), the appliance is adhered to the teeth whose eruption has been completed. Then, the patient is shown how to turn the screw on the upper palate in the mouth and is told to turn the appliance once or twice a day. It is sufficient to turn it approximately 20-28 times, and it is not turned any more. After the rotation, 3-6 months are waited for the bone cavity opened in the middle of the front two teeth to be filled with bone. The gap opened between the front two teeth is temporary and closes again with the formation of the middle bone over time.
How is it done?
In those with nausea, measurements are taken with the digital scanning method or with traditional measuring dough. Makes laboratory apparatus on the measure. The appliance is completely adhered to the patient’s teeth with special anti-caries adhesives.
USE OF
Turning should be done in the same direction according to the recipe given by the physician.
The appliance is turned once or twice a day. It is absolutely necessary to stop after a certain number of translations that the doctor has said.
Very hard or very sticky foods and acidic drinks should be avoided as they cause the appliance to weaken and come off. For detailed nutritional information, “WHAT SHOULD I EAT DURING ORTHODONTIC TREATMENT?” see our article.
Although there may be difficulties in speaking, swallowing and feeding for a few days, it will pass in time. Reading aloud exercises are recommended for rapid correction of speech difficulties.
CARE
All surfaces of the appliance, as well as the teeth, should be cleaned. An ideal brush and paste to brush the teeth is sufficient. If desired, it is recommended to use a mouthwash for these appliances.
FACE MASK (REVERSE HEADGEAR) TREATMENT
The upper jawbone can be genetically positioned behind the lower jawbone. In this case, it is the process of bringing the upper jawbone forward, that is, to its proper position.
The posterior jawbone can be confused with the lower jawbone being forward. Even though some parents want the lower jawbone to be taken back, this is not possible. Because shrinking the growing bone is physiologically impossible. Conversely, maxillary recession can be easily treated by stimulating the growth of the maxillary bone.
AT WHAT AGE SHOULD IT BE DONE?
The earliest age of face mask treatment is 1. 7 years old when molars erupt. According to the articles reported today, the ideal age range is considered to be 8-10 years old. Since the upper jawbone joins with other skull bones at later ages, the success rate of face mask treatment decreases very seriously.
APPLICATION
It is a painless and needle-free procedure in all stages. In the first stage, an impression is taken for the appliance that will be made in the mouth and has an expansion function. After the measurement is made in the laboratory, it is adhered to the patient’s mouth with special adhesives. There are two hooks on the canine teeth of the appliance for the adhered mouth. The face mask located outside the mouth contains pillows on the chin and forehead. The position of these pads is adjusted according to the patient. The face mask has a removable structure and is fixed through the mouth with elastics. From the hooks of the appliance inside the mouth to the hooks of the face mask outside the mouth, elastics of certain thickness are attached by the physician. These tires pull the upper jaw forward while trying to regain its former shape. In this way, the upper jaw is brought forward.
USE OF
Face mask and elastics should be used for at least 16 hours a day.
It should not be used while eating.
Acidic drinks and hard foods should not be consumed in order to prevent damage to the oral appliance.
As tires lose their elasticity over time, they should be changed daily from the tire package by the doctor.
Since bone growth hormones are secreted at the highest level while sleeping at night, it is absolutely necessary to sleep with an appliance at night.
The appliance should never be used while doing sports.
Although there is difficulty in speaking and swallowing on the first day of wearing the appliance, this passes over time.
The chin pads may cause redness in the relevant areas of the patients. For this, your doctor should be contacted. Substances such as cotton and paper that dry the chin skin and facilitate irritation should not be placed.
CARE
Especially the forehead and chin pads of the face mask apparatus should be wiped with wet wipes.
The appliance for the mouth and the surrounding gums should be brushed by pressing lightly without any fear.
