APICAL RESECTION

It is the process of removing the cysts and/or lesions formed at the root tip due to caries and trauma, especially with incorrect root canal treatment, together with a part of the tooth root. Difference from root canal treatment; It is to reach the root tip directly from the root side instead of cleaning the infection focus by going to the root tip inside the tooth. The aim is to treat the root canal treatment instead of pulling the insufficient teeth due to the infection at the root tip.

Implants are one of the best treatment methods in today’s dentistry, as they completely replace the existing teeth. Because when it is placed inside the existing jawbone, it completely combines with the bone and becomes a very durable structure. It creates a complete tooth structure with teeth in porcelain or zirconium structure placed on this durable structure. It offers a better solution in terms of function and aesthetics compared to the existing tooth, which is yellowed and worn, and the root surface is inflamed.

WHICH CASES CAN BE APPLIED?

It can be done in cases where the lesion or cyst at the root tip covers less than 2/3 of the root.

HOW IS APICAL RESECTION APPLIED?

As in many other treatment methods, first of all, the area of interest is anesthetized with local anesthesia. The root is seen by making an incision on the gingiva from the area close to the cyst in the relevant area. After the root area is cleaned in detail, the cut gingiva is sutured. The bone cavity in the relevant area is filled with bone after approximately 1-2 months.

HOW IS THE RESISTANCE OF THE TEETH AFTER APICAL RESECTION TREATMENT?

The success of the treatment can be achieved by wearing it to the doctor at regular intervals (3, 6, 12 months). The physician performs both clinical examination and radiographic examinations. If no problems are encountered in these regular examinations, the relevant tooth is used for life.
