TEETH WHITENING (BLEACHING)

We use the most modern treatment methods and technological tools to detect and treat every problem in your mouth and teeth.

Teeth turn yellow permanently due to age, coloring foods and beverages, some drugs and smoking. However, individuals may have a genetically encoded yellow tooth, such as hair color. In these cases, the color of the tooth can be lightened with some whitening agents. All of these agents are FDI (World Dental Association) approved and do not register any health risks. However, the whitening of tooth color varies from person to person and its standardization is not possible.

Implants are one of the best treatment methods in today’s dentistry, as they completely replace the existing teeth. Because when it is placed inside the existing jawbone, it completely combines with the bone and becomes a very durable structure. It creates a complete tooth structure with teeth in porcelain or zirconium structure placed on this durable structure. It offers a better solution in terms of function and aesthetics compared to the existing tooth, which is yellowed and worn, and the root surface is inflamed.

WHAT ARE TEETH WHITENING METHODS?

There are 2 types of whitening available. One is the office type, where all the procedures are done in the clinic, and the other is the home type whitening done by means of the plaques given to the patient. Both procedures have different stages. Whitening methods, which are divided into two as office type and home type, include different stages. Office Type Whitening: In this type of whitening, all procedures are performed in the clinic. After approximately 20-40 minutes, the whitening of the teeth occurs visibly. It is the most widely used method today. Home Whitening: The patient puts the whitening agent into the plaques given to him by the physician and uses it overnight. The whitening time takes much longer than the office type. Because the amount of whitening agent set by the physician is at a lower concentration. This prolongs the treatment period.

HOW IS THE WHITENING APPLICATION?

First of all, bacterial plaque, tartar and stains on the tooth, if any, are removed. Then, the lips, cheeks and tongue are removed with special retractors, preventing damage to these tissues and providing a comfortable working area. In addition, the gingiva is covered with special gels to prevent damage to the gingiva. After these procedures, a light source is applied by carefully applying a whitening agent on the teeth. Special blue light application activates the whitening agent. If it is not enough after this application, which lasts for 20 minutes, the whitening process is repeated immediately after another session or 1 week.

WHAT SHOULD BE CONSIDERED AFTER WHITENING?

• Sensitivity or pain in teeth after the whitening process goes away in a few days. However, pain relievers can be used if desired.
• In order not to increase the sensitivity, you should avoid very hot-very cold foods and drinks for 1-2 days.
• All foods and beverages with high coloring and sticky properties should be avoided for at least 1 week. The most common foods and beverages are; cigarettes, tea, coffee, caramel, chocolate, dishes containing tomato paste, red wine, cherry-cherry and saffron.
• Brushing becomes more important after whitening. Teeth should be brushed after every meal, most importantly before going to bed at night. It is recommended to use toothpastes with whitening properties.
• Individuals who do not use coffee, tea or smoke for at least 6 months and regularly brush their teeth, whitening is more permanent. Otherwise, the whitening effect is limited or it may return to its old color. Whitening once every 6 months increases the permanence of teeth whitening in returning individuals.

DOES WHITENING DAMAGE TEETH?

The whitening process applied for a sufficient time by the right agents and the right physicians does not cause any harm to the teeth. Because the applied area is under the gingiva and the enamel and dentin layer where the teeth are the strongest. If the gingiva is damaged and receded or the enamel surface is eroded for different reasons (abrasion, erosion), the whitening process is performed by protecting the relevant areas. There may be gingival or tooth sensitivity for 24 hours after whitening. However, this situation is temporary and should be worried about.
